Final Opening

PS. i love you, opening scene analysis

For this task we were asked to find a trailer or opening scene and analysis everything you would see in a film. The genre of the film i have chosen for this task is Rom-com.
Sounds
The first thing you can hear when you watch this would be the background music. The background music is a loving calm sound. This will attract viewers and make the audience know that it is a loving, caring rom-com film. During the film you would hear many sound effects such as when the lifeguard jacket inflates, you can hear and see this happening. There would be on and off sounds throughout the film of things you can hear but can not see, this would be the talking of the man that has died, you can hear him talking clearly but you cant see him.
Camera Shots
Throughout the trailer you will see a lot of different camera shots. The first camera shots you see are close ups, you see close ups to the birthday cake, and also to the actor when she opens the letters. You see an extreme wide shot of the bridge. You see a lot of long shots when the characters are walking. When the actor is running down the road this camera angle would be stedicam as it follows the actor as accurate as possible.
Actors, Costume, Make up & Hair.
During the film there is only 2 main actors, and one of them being dead, the other being the wife of the man who has died. Each actor that plays in this film has been put on the role that they are most perfect at. You can see that the costume changes a lot throughout the film. At the start they were in their underwear and joking around, as the film carried on they were just wearing casual clothing that you would see people wear everyday. The costumes seemed to change every time a letter was wrote, eg when the letter asked the actor to do karaoke she dressed up in a specific way to do this. The hair of the actors wasn't styled in a specific way. You could see that when the man died the wife didn't make a lot of effort in her appearance and her styled hair may have been different to everyone else's. The makeup was casual throughout the film. It was an everyday make up style. You could also see that when the man died the wife didn't use makeup, or this is what the film made it look like. There could of been make up that made the actor look upset, and lost about what had just happened.
Lightening.
The lightening in the film changes a lot. There is many different parts in the film where the lightening changes because of what is been acted in the scene. At first when you see the couple in the home it seems dark and the only light is from the house lamps and candles. This doesn't give off much light. The lightening is similar of the scene of the funeral, its very dark and upsetting. The lighting changes when the letters are sent out and something different is done everyday. When the girls go fishing the lightening is natural day light, there is no other lightening around the scene that could change this. The lightening seems to change depending on the actors moods. When the actor is happy and is out enjoying herself the lightening seems to be bright and cheerful but when the actor is in a bad mood the lightening seems to be dark, upsetting and gloomy.
Setting and props
The setting seems to change when the letters come through. The events that the letters tell her to do seem to stay in the town where she is from. But there is one letter that she has to go to Ireland for, this is a change of scenery for her. There are a lot of different props through the film and you seem to see one quite a bit, this is the letters that get sent the whole way throughout. You also see props such as the voice recorder, the birthday cake and many more. Each prop is sent with the letter.
Facial expression & Body language
The facial expression changes a lot through the film. This is a film where the moods change more then usual. When the husband dies you can see that the wife is upset and doesn't know what to do. You can see this by her facial expression, She doesn't show any emotion apart from that she is very upset and hurt. This changes throughout the film when she does different activities or she is with people. When you see her go fishing with the girls, you can see she is enjoying herself, you can see this from her facial expressions as she is smiling and laughing. This is also the same for her body language, depending on what mood she is in and what she is doing, will depend on the way she acts about things.
